Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Westerstede’ is an enchanting hybrid resulting from the crossbreeding of Japanese witch hazel (Hamamelis japonica) and Chinese witch hazel (Hamamelis mollis). This delightful shrub graces the garden with its striking, slightly scented yellow flowers, which provide a cheerful presence in the late winter and early spring. The petals of ‘Westerstede’ resemble delicate, crinkled ribbons, adorning the bare branches at a time when many other plants are still in their dormant phase. As the seasons progress, this deciduous shrub boasts oval green leaves that transform into attractive shades of orange and red in the autumn, offering a captivating display of colour.
